At this years Volunteer Appreciation
Dinner, the Adult Literacy League recognized Louise Tapper with their
award for Outstanding Service. Louise has volunteered as a reader
at the Winter Garden Childrens Health Center on Plant Street
for over five years. Every week, Louise faithfully visits the center
waiting room and reads to children and their families while they wait
for their appointment with the doctor. After reading, when supplies
allow, she also gives the children a free book to keep. These books
are furnished by ALL. She also tells the parents about the free services
the League has to offer, which include one-to-one tutoring, ESL classes,
ABE classes and more. Over the course of the last five years, Louise
has given books to over 1500 children and touched the lives of many,
many more. Thank you so much, Louise, for all you have done
to enhance the lives of our children through reading! For information
on how you can join Louise, please call 407-422-1540 and ask about
the Reach Out and Read program.
